This session has been postponed- a new date will be posted ASAP.
Sister Eliza Jeffers (1868-1955) produced a number of hooked rugs at the Alfred and Sabbathday Lake Shaker Villages. Join us for this fun introduction to North American rug hooking as we create a 6” square wool rug with fiber artist Beth Miller of Parris House Wool Works.
Join us for a one session beginner’s rug hooking class to get started on our 6″ x 6″ original design by Beth of Two Hearts. This will be an introduction to hooking including some history of the craft, an overview of styles, how to choose hooking wools and other materials, tools, rules (there are very few), tips, and tricks, and getting started on our projects. Finishing instructions will also be demonstrated.
Beth will provide the fundamental tools and materials needed during the class and to take home with you:
-Hand drawn pattern of Beth’s original design (choice from drop-down list at registration) and plenty of colors to customize your design
-Beginner hook tool
-All wool strips needed to hook the design
-Embroidery hoop
Just bring a small pair of scissors, bagged lunch, & beverage and come ready to have some fun! Additional supplies will be available to purchase from Beth if you’re ‘hooked’ and want to continue your fiber adventures!
Workshop is suited for beginner levels. Class size: 5 minimum, 10 max.
Did you know that current members of The Friends of the Shakers receive $5 off each workshop? Sign up or renew today for your discount!
Please be sure to pick your pattern choice at registration.
