9am – 4pm
In-person/On-site
In this hands-on workshop, students will learn to fold, sew, and paste to build five varied and interesting bookforms including: pamphlets, two variations of star books, accordion books and Japanese stab bindings. We will also explore several additions and variations to make these books more interesting and useful. Students should gain enough experience and knowledge to confidently explore book design and building to create unique and interesting gifts, journals, or to publish their own work.
This is a skill-focused workshop; you will leave with 6 books, several on boards (hard back). Materials will be prepped before arrival and distributed.
All materials will be supplied. Participants are encouraged to bring printed scraps, cards or labels to personalize their work.
Though Geoff Davis is a wood carver, luthier, letterpress printer, and leather smith, he considers his first calling to be teaching. Davis, who grew up dividing his time between Indiana and coastal Maine, spent over 30 years teaching in public schools before opening his own teaching studio in Noblesville, Indiana. At the Workshops of G.B. Davis, in Noblesville, Indiana, Geoff teaches ukulele building and carving as well as general woodworking. He was named an Indiana Artisan in 2011 for his bird carvings and has been included in the Early American Life Directory of American Craft since 2017 for his bird carvings, pull-toys, letterpress, and paper.
