1pm-3pm
A beginners workshop on using a spinning wheel to turn fiber into yarn with local instructor and fiber artist Betsey Leslie. Spinning is relaxing and rewarding! If you are a knitter or weaver there is nothing better than creating the exact yarn for your project. It is its own form of unique rhythm and motion using your eyes, hands, and feet to create that twisted thread of fiber that becomes yarn.
Get in the zone and become a spinner. It takes practice to master but like riding a bike, once you “get it” there’s no looking back.
If you have your own wheel that can be transported- please bring it along, it’s best to learn on your own wheel but it’s ok if you don’t have one yet — there will be different styles of modern wheels to borrow and learn on.
Bring your own prepped fiber (take the morning fiber session to prep your own from the Shakers’ wool) or use Betsey’s from the Shakers’ flock!
If you have taken this year’ (or our prior) Washing, Skirting and Preparing a Fresh Fleece workshop, we are offering you a class discount on each of the Prep and Spinning classes.
Consider spending the full day at Shaker Village and prep your own wool in the morning Fiber Preparation workshop!
Class size: 6
Did you know that current members of The Friends of the Shakers receive $5 off each workshop? Sign up or renew today for your discount!
