Shaker Village and the Friends of the Shakers invite volunteers of all ages to join their Fall Work Day, on Saturday, October 26, to help the Sabbathday Lake Shakers and Shaker Museum close buildings and grounds for the season! You’ll spend the day working on various assignments suitable for all ages and abilities. Work days bring chores, but fellowship as well. Everyone shares lunch at noon, conversation, and laughter. Please bring a potluck dish or dessert to share.
Examples of task on our to-do list include: processing and packing this year’s harvest in the herb department, prepping the Shakers’ herb gardens for their Winter rest, packing up products in the Visitors’ Center for storage, cleaning up the pasture for the animals, and so much more!
Chores start at 9 am and last until 3 pm, rain or shine. You are welcome to arrive at any time and stay for as long as you are able to.
Register online below. Lunch is provided– RSVPs are requested in advance to plan for food.
There will be a check-in table located on the central lawn and a chore list to choose from at sign-in. There will be options for all levels: indoor/seated/non-physical work to outdoor/very active work — everything in between!
All tools will be supplied but if you have a favorite pair of work gloves, feel free to wear them!
