10am-4pm
On site / In-Person
This rug weaving class will teach the basics of using a peg loom from artists and farmers Michael Stevens and Kathleen Wentworth of Notta Lotta Farm in Topsham, ME. You will pick your Alpaca Rug Yarn from their supply made of fiber from their own alpacas, as well as other Maine alpacas, and blended with wool at a local Maine mill. The yarns have a center core of cotton to add strength and are in lovely natural colors. You will go home with a new fantastically fun skill and a completed, beautiful, luxurious Alpaca Rug that is one of a kind. The softest rug!
Approximate finished rug size is your choice of:
26″ × 26″ (plus fringe) square
20″ × 34″ (plus fringe) rectangle
All supplies will be provided to make weave your own unique rug and Mike & Kathy will have additional supplies of their handmade peg looms and super-soft alpaca fiber available to purchase so that you can stock up to keep on weaving and creating at home.
Class size: maximum 6.
Kathy is graciously donating all money from this workshop as a fundraiser for our Herb House Cultural Center project. Her donation, along with any that you’d like to add at checkout, will be matched 25% by a Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This project, in part, will give Shaker Village expanded space for traditional arts workshops and communal events as well as, obviously, an expanded Herb House facility that will allow for us to produce, dry, and process more herbs in the traditional Shaker method. We are beyond excited for this project and thank you for your support!
Did you know that current members of The Friends of the Shakers receive $5 off each workshop? Sign up or renew today to claim your discount!
This session has SOLD OUT – Please contact us if you’d like to be added to the waiting list or check out the other dates of this same workshop coming up.
