9am–4pm
In-person
Since the 1790s, the Shakers have been inspired by many elements of the natural world.
Gelatin printmaking, or Gel Printing, is a form of monotype printing. Instructor and artist Bonnie Faulkner will teach you how to create beautiful prints without a press using botanicals from the Shaker Herb Garden as well as shapes you make in class. The process is simple, versatile, and addictive.
This workshop is a more intermediate class where you’ll learn how to think ahead with layers to create more planned and intentional imagery on paper and fabric. Some knowledge of gel printing is helpful but not necessary. The workshop is well-suited for professional or novice printmakers, craft enthusiasts, or anyone with a desire to try it!
The basic materials are non-toxic and clean up with water. All materials will be provided along with a recipe for making your own gel plate at home. You will also go home with a small gel plate to keep that printing addiction going!
If there is time in the afternoon we’ll create some simple books using the gorgeous prints you’ve made.
Class size: 8
