Shape Note Singing
Saturday, June 2, 2018, 1pm-4:30pm FREE
Shape notes, a form of musical notation that assigns geometric shapes to note heads, was first introduced in 1801 to simplify community acapella singing. Shape note singers from around New England will gather in the Shakers’ 1794 Meeting House for a truly spectacular annual “sing” in the Sacred Harp tradition that resonates with power through Shaker Village, hearkening back to earlier times.
The public is welcome to join in with the singing or just enjoy the beautiful music. This event is free of charge and open to all ages and experience levels. Consider pairing this with a Shaker Museum tour and make a day out of your visit!
