Shape Note Singing

Saturday, June 3, 2017, 1pm-4:30pm FREE
Shape notes, a form of musical notation that assigns geometric shapes to note heads, was first introduced in 1801 to simplify community acapella singing. Shape note singers from around New England will gather in the Shakers’ 1794 Meeting House for a truly spectacular “sing” in the Sacred Harp tradition that resonates with power through Shaker Village, hearkening back to earlier times. The public is welcome to join in with the singing.
