Eco Printing Workshop
Saturday, June 10, 2017, 9am–4pm
Since the 1790s, the Shakers have been inspired by many elements of the natural world.
Record your visit to the Shaker Village by printing our plants on fabric! Local instructor and fiber artist Mary DeLano will teach you the art and craft of Eco-printing; a process where plant materials are placed on specially treated fabric and then steamed to release the pigments in the plants, leaving realistic prints of the plants on the fabric. Participants will learn about which plants print reliably and will have a chance to experiment with other plants and to gather their own plants on the grounds of Shaker Village. Students will take home eight printed pieces of fabric, including one silk scarf.
All materials will be supplied. Class size: 15
Consider also taking the Embroidered Eco-Print workshop in September to further enhance your finished scarf!
