Candlewicking: Embroidered Sachets Workshop

Saturday, August 19th, 9am-2pm

Needlework was an important part of daily life at Shaker Village. The Sisters used their needlework talents for the production of handmade goods and taught the young girls the art at a very young age.

Candlewicking is an early form of needlework and was done at a time when fancy threads were a luxury. Join local quilter and needleworker Dianne Devonshire and choose from six patterns to make a sachet that will be filled with your choice of Shaker Lavender or Shaker Potpourri. Traditionally, candlewicking is done with white thread on a white fabric but there will be a choice of color thread if you’d like to experiment. This is a great technique to learn for embellishing baby blankets and other gifts!

All materials for the sachet are included. Please bring a 7 or 8 inch embroidery hoop (there will be a number available on-site if you are unable to obtain one) and a small pair of scissors. No prior experience necessary.

Class size: 6.
